Play the Lottery and Live Your Dreams

Who is writing this? It can’t be that guy who writes about budgets and cash flows and buying everything with cash.

Yes, it is I. Now before you call or write back let me preference the title of the post by saying that if you spend more than ½ of 1% of your take home pay you need help. Basically if you bring home $500 a week you have $2 to spend each week…so go out a buy a ticket for each drawing of Mega Millions.

Why would I tell you to do this? Simple; somewhere along the way of life your dreams were taken away. Some will say that it was taken away at public school. As system that was designed a hundred plus years ago in an effort to educated factory workers so that they will be better at following orders and become better workers. The system hasn’t changed in 100 years but our world certainly has. Remember when you were young and you dreamed about what you would do with your life? Remember when you were in college in your business class you dreamed of starting “Cocktails & Dreams?” (You do know that movie right?). Well don’t feel bad because this happens to most of us. If you make it out of school with some dreams still intact we get caught up in life and we learn that chasing those dreams costs a lot of money and we can’t go after them because:

1) We have a mortgage payment

2) Car payment

3) The kid costs us $1 every time they go to the bathroom and they go a lot!!

4) Where would I get the money

5) What would I do for money until my dreams starts making money?

After awhile we just stop thinking of ways to get around the negative questions because we realize it is not going to happen. Once we stop asking the questions we stop dreaming and start going through our days. For many their days are fine and they enjoy life but for others there is a 6 year olds imagination in you that is ready to bust out or a 22 year old straight out of college ready to take on the world and that spirit needs to be awakened.

The lottery is the way to awaken your inner spirit of entrepreneurship. The great thing is that you do not even have to win the lottery for it to help. Instead what happens is if you play the lottery twice a week you get to dream of what you would do if you won.

Finally after playing for a year or more you realize something that can change your life. Instead of making excuses and thinking “why I can’t” your attitude starts to change to “why not?” You start to realize that you don’t need $40 million to make your dreams a reality, you only need to …. Once you have that list you are on your way.

I use to dream about what I called, “One Year Foundation.” What I would do is take my winnings and adopt 3 families a year that are nominated from local churches. The parent(s) would be trained for a better job. The parent(s) would also learn about budgeting and getting out of and staying out of debt. The foundation would pay for all their expenses for one year while all the money earned by the parents would be put into a savings account that could be used for a down payment on a house at the end of the year.

That dream has not come true but another one has emerged. I starting teaching Dave Ramsey classes and I realized a common theme from the adults that were in trouble. They always said things like, “I sure wish somebody taught me this stuff when I was in high school.” That got me thinking, I love teaching and there is a need to teach kids basic financial education. They are not going to learn it in school so why can’t I do it. Better yet, maybe I can make it a non-profit so I would not have to charge kids for the class so everybody can afford it. So for the past year or so I have filled out all the paperwork and spent why too much time with the IRS. It took a long to come up with a name as I wanted it to be right. My Dad and step-mom believed in me and became the first donors to the project (THANK YOU VERY MUCH)!!! I wrote an 80 page book to be used in class, worked with a great organization to get my web-site up and running. Dreams take a lot of work but today I am working hard so that one day my dream of educating the youth about basic financial education will be a full time job (if you can call living your dream a job.)

Liquid PFE is my dream. Will it come true, I do not know, but I do know that the Lottery let me dream? Maybe you do not need the possibility of winning millions to dream, if that is the case great. Whatever you need to do to dream, do it. If you have a dream, CHASE IT and do it before it is too late.
